Misty Loch Rusky
A very interesting All nighter with Simon Wooton which began up on the “bonnie bonnie bank of Loch Lomond” It was a beautiful clear night for photographing the stars / Milky Way. I love the silence and peacefulness of astro photography. We then headed down to Loch Rusky for a dawn shoot with boats in the mist. When we arrived at Rusky it was around 3.00am so being addicted enthuseists we decided to try some Astro over the loch. However we were unaware that the fishing cabin had been leased out to fishermen over the weekend. When they heard the disturbance in middle of the night, the bravest of them came charging out of the shack, wearing an old white shirt and a pair of white long johns which reminded me of old cowboy movies all he needed was a Winchester or a shotgun to complete the picture. He made the false assumption we were breaking into their cars. We tried our upmost explaining we were harmless photographers, I guess to a fisherman taking pictures at 3.00am in the dark without a flash didn’t warrant a plausible explanation or excuse, however after seeing the cameras and tripods he gave us the benefit of the doubt and headed back to bed.
Around 7.00 the fishermen emerged from shack demanding to know “ which of you B’strds woke us up! ” Fortunately by now Rusky resembled the population of a Buttlins camp in the 70’s, with a multitude of photographers onsite and no one was owning up, Silence is golden so they say. Definitely one my most memorable photography trips so far.
