Scotland’s First Hydrogen Train

Through a phone call to a retired railway engineer I heard there was a new clean energy project converting an old electric train to be powered by hydrogen cells. Due to both my engineering background as well as the photographic opportunity I had to try to put myself in the frame.

This ended up being an 18 month project through the scamdemic period. It was challenging shooting in low light under trains etc flash was impossible due to hi viz clothing and reflective strips. All was well until I submitted a photograph which implied health a safety regs had been breached and one of the engineers was reprimanded. The  knock on effect, none of the engineers wanted to be photographed resulting in rather dull, boring images of “stuff” fortunately this was short lived when we reached an agreement I wouldn’t submit any photographs to the company without their permission. There were a couple of times where, wow ! no don’t photograph this, but sometimes it’s the only way to get things done.

A good number of these photographs were publicised in papers and magazines some were on show at the COP 26 climate change conference as well as the Stereoscopic 3D show on a screen during the event.

The project was tiring but I’m glad I did it you can check out more from this project here
